Dream Space
Dream Space is a series of textile collages using needle-turn applique of naturally overdyed fabric from old textiles and community scraps. The collages depict an internal landscape, a mental space for exploring, relaxing, and considering the future and its (im)possibilities. This project realizes dreams. Gardening is intimately incorporated into creative practice by discovering grown and foraged colors. Rest, self-care, and letting go become the focus through hand-stitching, intuitive piecing, and letting the shape of unironed textiles guide the work. Abundance inspires the use of textile waste, garden dye plants, and solar energy to heat dye pots. The process of creating these collages reflects the melting of my preconceived ideas, as the conventional dyes from the fabric scraps are released and blend with the natural dyes to create a coherent color palette. My ideas, now changed, can be reorganized and pieced into new personal and collective visions.
