Featured Work:
“Agency” from the Dream Space series by Anna Pancoast, 2024, 33 x 40 inches, Naturally overdyed textiles
Exhibition Statement:
“I dwell in Possibility –
A fairer House than Prose –
More numerous of Windows –
Superior – for Doors –”
-Emily Dickinson, I Dwell in Possibility
How do our experiences in our homes affect us? What does it mean to inhabit our own bodies or live on this earth? Why do we sometimes remain in a moment, a mood, or a state of being for a time? Like in the poem by Emily Dickinson, dwell has many connotations.
Ten New England-based female and non-binary identifying artists explore these questions with bold shapes, tender renderings, and psychological portraits. They dwell as observers, makers, caregivers, dreamers and seekers of sanctuary. The work – which includes painting, collage, sculpture, textiles, and drawings – showcases a mastery of individual mediums and a unity of concept: we all “dwell” in possibility.
This exhibition is part of the Taking. Up. Space. (T.U.S.) Initiative facilitated by Thrive Together Network and will take place at Mystic Open Studio, an artist-run collaborative studio and event space. It is organized by Thrive Together Network members and artists Molly Zimmer, Anna Pancoast, Jess Cofrin and Lisa Benson. T.U.S. is a Grassroots Female Focused Community Global Art Exhibition empowering artists to take up more space and exhibit their art in the month of May, 2024. There are exhibitions taking place all over the world this year and Dwell is one of them. See more from this initiative by viewing #takingupspace2024 on Instagram.
