Hope Is a Garden
It started with two little pots of walking onions at a community plant sale, tucked carefully into my safest raised beds. Within a couple years they were so numerous that I moved them to the border of my largest and unprotected raised bed in the front garden, where they thrive with minimal human care. In addition to growing comical baby plants in place of flowers, they provide endless green onions in the spring and fall. I cut them just above the roots so they grow back, continuing the abundance. These plants are so generous that they are the first gift I offer to new gardening friends.
