Hope Is a Garden
The tiny red jewels hanging from the tree on the right are pie cherries. Too tart for eating more than a couple out of hand, they make fantastically delicious jam and are the most productive fruit tree so far from the ones I planted in the spring of 2020. Sometimes I think about getting another one, or maybe a sweet cherry tree, but it’s a lot of work pitting the tiny fruits and I was a bit relieved when we had a smaller crop this year. Even without the fruit, it’s a beautiful tree that requires practically no pruning (yet). I am also keeping an eye out for bits of gum on the bark so I can try making my own local substitute for gum arabic, the binder I currently use for watercolor paints and inks.
